This training session is aimed at people with an interest in wildlife and conservation of endangered species. It will cover hazel dormouse ecology and survey techniques. Hazel dormice are an endangered species that have declined significantly over the past century. Their decline is believed to be due primarily to habitat loss and habitat fragmentation. The Belfairs Nature Reserve has been traditionally managed by coppicing, which has enabled it to support a healthy population of hazel dormice.
