Essex Wildlife Trust volunteer George Catchpole has been shortlisted in two categories at the 2017 UK Awards for Biological Recording and Information Sharing, the David Robertson Award for Marine and Coastal wildlife and the Gilbert White award for terrestrial and freshwater wildlife.
George has been involved with Essex Wildlife Trust for many years in many different roles, from former Trustee to gardener! He was nominated for the David Robertson award for his voluntary work surveying a large proportion of the Essex coastline as part of the newly established Essex Coastal Wardens scheme, and for the Gilbert White award for his volunteer work surveying Local Wildlife Sites across most of north and central Essex. To date George has added over 16,000 records for these sites to the Essex Wildlife Trust records database.
When the weather is too bad for surveying, gardening or winter work parties, George spends his time digitising paper records for Essex Wildlife Trust Biolgical Records Centre.
The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on the evening of 16 November 2017. more details can be found on the National Biodiversity Network's website here.
