Study demonstrates substantial value of nature and green spaces to society

A study commissioned by the Land Trust has found that people place a high value on green space, and that every pound invested in nature reserves and parks provides benefits worth over £50 to society.

The study found that for every £1 spent by the Land Trust in maintaining its parks and nature reserves people place a value on the spaces that is two and a half times higher. In addition, this level of expenditure contributes £30 towards health and wellbeing benefits and £23 towards crime reduction and community safety. This report builds on evidence from scientific studies that show that green spaces can have significant positive effects of health and wellbeing, and that the benefits of green spaces improve the more wildlife they support.
